The Leeds branch of electrical wholesaler, YESSS Electrical, raised more than £2,000 for Betsy’s Fund for Mitochondrial Disease Awareness, at the inaugural YESSS Golf Day.

The event, in partnership with ventilation manufacturer Envirovent, took place at Leeds Golf Centre.

More than 30 local businesses took part, with many donating prizes or sponsoring individual holes at the golf event.

The great prizes on offer drew in the crowds and some 68 people took part in the golfing events, with dozens competing to “Beat the Pro”. This involved amateurs trying to score higher on Par Three than a local golfing professional for a chance to win top prizes.

The golf was followed by an evening dinner with prize presentations and an after dinner speech by former Leeds United favourite and ex-Wales manager Terry Yorath, who also tried his hand at the golfing events throughout the day.

Andrew Hayward, Sales Manager at YESSS Electrical Leeds, said: “The event was a great success, and the YESSS team is delighted to have been able to help Betsy’s parents and Newcastle University raise money and awareness of Mitochondrial Disease.”

Betsy’s Fund, which raises money to contribute to Newcastle University’s Mitochondrial Research Fund, has already broken its target to raise £12,000 to research the disease, which affects around 6,000 adults and children in the UK and currently has no cure.
