BCAMike Hagger, Technical Secretary of the British Cables Association (BCA), has received the International Standards Maker award from BSI, the UK’s National Standards Body.
At BSI’s inaugural awards event, held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Marble Arch, the exceptional contributions of its many committee members, chairmen and those who have made a significant impact within a short time of being appointed, was recognised in 10 awards spanning four categories.
Mike Hagger was one of four to receive the International Standards Maker award in recognition of his work as a `member of a BSI committee who has made a significant contribution to the development of International or European standards’.
With more than 50 years’ experience in the cable industry and as a member of many BSI Technical Committees, and immediate past-Secretary of the CENELEC and International Technical Committees for electric cables, Mike’s technical expertise, dedication and communication skills have benefited the cable industry for many years.
His knowledge, experience and understanding of cables, and their, technology and test methods has enabled him to play a pivotal role in the writing and development of many essential and complex cable standards.
Receiving the award from Elisabeth Stampfl-Blaha, Managing Director, Austrian Standards, Mike Hagger said: “I am tremendously proud to have been given this award and to share a platform today with so many highly respected individuals from the BSI Standards arena. it would not have happened without the continuous support over many years from the member companies of BCA and their technical experts.”
Although having relinquished his formal role at IEC and CENELEC levels, Mike continues to play an active part in the work on fire safety of cables, and in particular the standards required for the Construction Product Regulation (CPR), which will shortly become mandatory within Europe.
Scott Steedman, Director of Standards at BSI and internal sponsor of the awards said: “These are the first awards to be made under the new BSI Awards scheme and aim to recognise the outstanding work of our 10,000 committee members and committee chairmen.
“We are delighted with the large number of nominations received, reflecting the great breadth and value of the work BSI’s standards committees have done over many decades to support the UK economy and public interest.”
