BEAMA launches electric vehicle infrastructure guide at low carbon vehicle conference

Electric vehicles will be the dominant technology in support of the UK Government’s plans to ensure Ultra Low Emission Vehicles are the mass market solution for road transport in 2050. The charging and energy system infrastructure development task is of enormous strategic importance and in recognition of this, BEAMA has developed a new Guide to Electric Vehicle Infrastructure.

Launching the guide at the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership Conference, BEAMA’s Electric Vehicle Manager, Alex Goodwin, said: “This is the second edition of our guide and we have focused on all charging options with an emphasis on interoperability and safety; essential ingredients in developing a long term sustainable market for electric vehicles.

“The specification decisions we make now will be crucial to future proofing our energy system and over the coming months we will be working with partners including the Low Carbon Vehicle Partnership and officials at the Department for Transport to push the guide out to the market place.

“Any specifier from either the private or public sector with an interest in investing in Electric Vehicle Charging Infrastructure should reference this easy to read guide. Its modular structure enables the reader to home in on the essential sections for their project.”

The guide is  available on the BEAMA website.

Members of the BEAMA Electric Vehicle Infrastructure group include chargepoint manufacturers but also members with interests in smart grid, safety components, power handling/management equipment.
