Light Efficient Design UK retrofits LED lighting at Plympton Swimming Pool, Plymouth.
The mercury lamps that lit the 25m Plympton Swimming Pool have been successfully replaced with 21 Light Efficient Design retrofit LED lamps. While ‘corn’ LED lamps were considered, the LED 8090A floodlight solutions were chosen due to their unique one-sided design, which allows a very high light output ratio. This ensures clean, bright light (>80 CRI) while saving up to 70% in energy costs and emissions.
Locally-based Rowse Electrical supplied the LED lamps to the pool maintenance team who carried out the installation one evening after 9pm when the pool had closed for the day. Steve Rousell, Everyone Active’s Regional Technical Manager, said: “We had two main reasons for making the changes. Firstly, we wanted to improve the quality of lighting in the pool and increase the visibility for lifeguards. Secondly, we were aiming to reduce the investment needed to maintain the lighting system.
“The feedback so far indicates that we have achieved both these goals. We have received a number of positive comments from both colleagues and customers about the difference the lighting has made.”
Allowing affordable and non-invasive replacement of 400W HIDs with 120W LED by using the existing light fittings, installation simply required bypassing the ballast and directly connecting the lamp holders to the 240V supply. The new retrofit LED lamps were then easily and quickly installed.
Fully CE and ROHS certified, low maintenance is assured with a 50,000 hour rated lamp life together with integrated active cooling fans rated for 70,000 hours. The product is backed by a five-year warranty.
