<\/a><\/p>\n<\/b>Electrical wholesaler, YESSS Electrical, has sponsored Gravesend Rugby Football Club\u2019s four-day cycling event to raise money for the Royal British Legion (RBL) Poppy Appeal.<\/p>\n
Between 9\u2013 12 October, 37 men and women cycled from\u00a0Gravesend to Ypres, Belgium, where they laid\u00a0a wreath at the Menin Gate, the memorial to those with no known grave.\u00a0The round trip is 300 miles.<\/p>\n
In preparation for the trip, delegated riders travelled to the RBL Village in Aylesford, Kent, to collect the wreath which was\u00a0placed in Ypres on 10 October.<\/p>\n
The selected Gravesend Moles (the nickname of the team), also had the opportunity to meet Ray Sheppard, Head of the RBL Poppy Appeal, and Steve Sherry, Chief Executive of RBLI, giving the team a boost ahead of their gruelling challenge.<\/p>\n
The team has already raised more than \u00a315,000 for the RBL Poppy Appeal, though the final tally will be revealed at a presentation ceremony on 30 October.<\/p>\n
Rob Moorey, South East Regional Manager at YESSS Electrical, said: \u201cYESSS is committed to supporting ex-servicemen and women, and is the title sponsor of Walking With The Wounded\u2019s latest endeavour, the Walk Of Britain. We\u2019re keen to help in anyway we can and the team is pleased to be able to sponsor the bike ride raising money for such a good cause.\u201d<\/p>\n
Steve Weeks, organiser of the event, added: \u201cThe idea for the event was originally conceived by our dear friend Gary Theobald, who sadly passed away earlier this year. We\u2019re not only completing this event for the Royal British Legion, but also for him. We\u2019re encouraged that so many people associated with the Gravesend Ruby Football Club have agreed to assist our riders. We have a great team of people involved and we can\u2019t wait to get peddling.\u201d<\/p>\n
