Individual zones can be controlled separately when a space is divided, then synchronised when partitions are removed.

The approach is aimed particularly at environments such as classrooms, sports halls and multi-purpose spaces, staircases and corridors, offering simplified installation, app-based programming and partition switching. B.E.G., which has been developing lighting and building control technology since 1975, says the system has been developed around the practical requirements of modern building use.

Dan Glynn, UK sales director for UK and Ireland at B.E.G., said: “The opportunity with this product is simplified and reduced installation time, with no central hub required. End clients can be trained by B.E.G. to make changes to system and reduce their maintenance costs.

“With Daco Pro, the different lighting groups can respond to occupancy and daylight independently. This means lighting can be matched to the part of the building actually being used, rather than automatically treating the whole area as a single zone.”

The multicast approach also means multiple control loops can be established using one DALI line. B.E.G. says this can reduce the requirement for additional cabling to central panels and backbone requirements.

The system was developed with the practical requirements of installation and commissioning in mind, with flexibility. Glynn said: “We wanted to make the control architecture more flexible without making the installation more complicated,” he said. “Using one DALI line for multiple control loops means you can achieve different lighting arrangements without having to build a separate control system around every room.

“The ability to alter the configuration is particularly relevant where the original use of a space is likely to change. Rather than installing a fixed lighting-control arrangement based solely on the initial building layout, the control groups can be adjusted to reflect how the space is subsequently used.”

The Daco Pro system can be configured using a smartphone app, while an infrared device allows DALI devices to be addressed and grouped during commissioning.

Daco Pro can incorporate DALI push-button modules, while four integrated push-button inputs provide additional options for local control. The system can also accommodate changes after installation. B.E.G. says luminaires can be replaced without affecting the existing configuration, while additional sensors, DALI push-buttons and relay controls can be incorporated where required.

“That is important because the job doesn’t finish when the lights are switched on for the first time,” said Glynn. “Buildings change, rooms change and equipment eventually needs replacing. The control system needs to cope with that without creating unnecessary work.”

Daco Pro incorporates daylight and presence-based control, allowing lighting levels to respond to conditions within the space. It also supports Human Centric Lighting (HCL), dim back levels and guided light functions.

“A school can have classrooms, sports facilities, assembly areas and halls all being used in completely different ways,” said Glynn. “You don’t want the lighting strategy for one space dictating what happens in another. The point is to give each area the control it needs while still being able to bring those areas together when the building requires it.”

B.E.G. says the system is designed to provide contractors and building operators with a way of adapting lighting control as requirements change, without adding unnecessary infrastructure to the original installation. Glynn said the ability to adapt should increasingly be considered when lighting control systems are specified.

“If you look at how buildings are actually being used, flexibility and energy reduction is becoming much more relevant,” he said. “The control system needs to give the electrical contractor enough scope to deal with that flexibility without making the installation unnecessarily complicated.”

“With Daco Pro, the idea is that you have the control architecture in place to deal with those changes from the outset, rather than having to come back and redesign the system every time the building’s use changes.”

0870 850 5412 / www.beg-luxomat.com

The new DACO PRO system allows lighting zones to work independently as a standalone DALI addressable system.
