Today, Wednesday, 26th August 2026, marks exactly 90 years since the formal incorporation of FW Thorpe Ltd, now known as FW Thorpe Plc, the company behind Thorlux Lighting.<\/p>\n
Thorlux’s founder, Frederick William Thorpe, and his son, Ernest, initially designed and manufactured vitreous steel \u2018over-lamp\u2019 reflectors \u2013 products that were a runaway success. Early marketing materials promised \u201cFOR EASY MAINTENANCE \u2013 THE BEST\u201d \u2013 a maxim the firm still lives by today.<\/p>\n
Those initial reflectors paved the way for nearly a century of innovation, expansion and evolution. Thorlux luminaires are now in use all around the world in almost every non-domestic application, including education, healthcare, industrial, rail and more. Thorlux is based only a few miles from where it was founded in Birmingham, UK, and, after 90 years, Thorlux still makes over 90% of its products in the Midlands.<\/p>\n
