On Friday, 8 May a team of 46 climbers conquered Mount Snowdon in the pitch black, raising over \u00a334,000 for the Electrical Industries Charity.<\/p>\n
The team set off at 1:30am in pitch black and rain, head torches at the ready and prepared to take on the tallest Mountain in Wales. What followed was a trek filled with breathtaking views of Snowdonia from above the clouds.<\/p>\n
We caught up with some of the climbers at the top of the mountain about how their journey went, and what inspired them to take part.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy knees are a bit sore, but I\u2019m feeling a great sense of accomplishment,\u201d says Richard Scott, Commercial Director at Kosnic Lighting and EIC Trustee.<\/p>\n
\u201cMy biggest highlight was without a doubt getting up the steps, getting to the top and having a look over the landscape of North Wales and the mountains. Incredible,\u201d Richard says<\/p>\n
\u201cI was inspired to raise money for the EIC, bring people from Kosnic together, and do the second of our annual challenges for the charity,\u201d Ruchard adds.<\/p>\n
Richard\u2019s advice to anyone looking at taking on a similar challenge is to \u201cmake sure you train hard and make sure you\u2019re ready for it.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019d like to thank all the ladies at the EIC who are amazing, and my wife and my mum for supporting me in everything I do!\u201d<\/p>\n
Clark and Declan Gourlay from Union Technical Services, Glasgow say it feels good to do something that gives back to their peers in the industry.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m feeling quite exhilarated after the climb,\u201d says Clark, \u201cthe views are lovely, weather is really good, and there are some really good people around, so it\u2019s a really nice atmosphere.\u201d<\/p>\n
Declan says his highlight was \u201covercoming the strain of getting up the hill and getting to see the views at the top and also meeting some great people along the way.\u201d<\/p>\n
The two were inspired by a desire to raise money for those less fortunate than themselves. Having done Ben Nevis last year, Snowdon felt like a natural next step for the duo.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just to help other people,\u201d says Clark, \u201cpeople who are less fortunate than us and may need some help. Raising money to help a good cause and help fellow people in the electrical industry, it makes you feel good.\u201d<\/p>\n
Clark says that climbing the mountain is \u201cnot as daunting as you might think.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cA wee bit of training, especially just in your hill climbs in the eight weeks beforehand just builds up your strength,\u201d Clark adds.<\/p>\n
Declan advises anyone thinking of completing a similar challenge to \u201cJust get out there\u201d don\u2019t second guess. Do a wee bit of training, and there\u2019s always somebody on the path that will help you,\u201d he says.<\/p>\n
