In late March, the government announced the latest update to the Future Homes Standard, set to take effect in the UK from 2025. The FHS aims to future-proof new homes, reduce energy bills and support the UK\u2019s 2050 net-zero target by mandating high-performance insulation, solar panels and low-carbon heating systems like heat pumps. The response from the electrical sector has been largely positive, although there are concerns around electrical safety and realistic ongoing support from the government. On the topic of low-carbon heating, the possibilities of electric heating are widely misunderstood, and educating consumers is a job for the whole industry.
