Participants had to complete it within strict time limits, marked against tough criteria including wiring and connection skills, inspecting and testing and fault finding. The final was judged by a panel of industry experts, including NICEIC’s Head of Technical Advice, Sam Donaghy and Technical Training Developer, Mitchel Smith.

Ellis Stevenson recently completed her apprenticeship and works as an electrician with NICEIC-certified Cambell and McHardy, based in Moray.

NICEIC was pleased to present an iPad Air, as well as the latest edition IET Code of Practices for EV Charging Equipment, Solar PV Systems and Electrical Energy Storage Systems, to all this year’s finalists during the prizegiving ceremony. Once the finalists have achieved qualified electrician status, NICEIC and EAL will provide them with the opportunity to build on what they have learnt during the competition and attend training in key low-carbon technologies: EV charging, solar PV, and energy storage, aligned with the Electrician Plus model.

Ellis Stevenson commented: “SkillELECTRIC has been a real challenge and a huge learning experience. I am delighted that all of my training and practice paid off, and to come away with the gold is fantastic. I had a lot of help along the way, from the other competitors, my college lecturer, Iain McBean, and Campbell and McHardy. There’s so much to learn, especially with the introduction of new green technologies, and I’m excited to keep growing within the electrical field.”

NICEIC’s Head of Training, Alex Robinson, commented: “It was a fantastic performance from Ellis at this year’s final, demonstrating her sound technical ability. Ellis is a great example of what you can achieve with hard work and a determination to succeed. I am sure she will continue to learn new skills, put them into practice and enjoy a very successful career in the sector. NICEIC is pleased to have been involved with SkillELECTRIC for another year. The competition plays an important role in championing technical and professional integrity in the sector.”

Adam Souter of NICEIC-certified McDonald and Munro took second place with Fabian Maciejewski of NICEIC-certified East Goscote Electrics in third.
