LED lighting refurbishments for school facilities

In conjunction with Harrow Council, Luceco has recently provided energy efficient LED lighting solutions for school facilities within the remit of Harrow Council including Whitchurch Primary & Nursery School and Kenmore Park Junior and Infant School.

Whitchurch Primary and Nursery School required cost-effective LED lighting to replace existing fluorescent fittings that were no longer fit for purpose. Luceco suggested a retro-fit, energy saving lighting solution using the linear Academy luminaire and installing to the existing lighting track that remained in good order. This retro-fit solution met the budget constraints and, due to the use of energy saving luminaires, made for an attractive return on investment.

The lighting refurbishment was partially funded by the Salix scheme. Established in 2004, Salix Finance delivers 100% interest-free capital to the public sector to improve its energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions with loans for energy efficiency projects.

Other luminaries installed included Celeste, an attractive circular LED luminaire from Luceco featuring a ‘corona’ backlight effect with a direct / indirect light distribution. The Celeste is ideal for many commercial and educational lighting applications boasting a market leading efficacy range of 107 Llm/cW. The backlit accent effect is available in red, yellow, green and blue plus a choice of decorative bezel trims including white, brushed chrome and steel finish. The luminaire can be surface, wall mounted, or as at Whitchurch Primary and Nursery School, suspended using a 3 point 1.5-meter suspension kit, creating an attractive pendant.

The Celeste offers up to 50,000 hours working life with no maintenance or re-lamping requirements, which benefits the environment in terms of energy efficiency and lamp disposal. Available in 12, 21 and 30 W options (Lumen Output Range lm 1250 / 2200 / 3200) with standard output, digital dimming, microwave and emergency variants including self-test, Celeste is also available with an integral microwave sensor which further reduces energy consumption. With the corridor function selected, the sensor adjusts the light level to 10% of the normal level when the space is unoccupied.

Other luminaires used included LuxPack battens replacing linear fluorescent luminaires, IP65 Climate fittings and Atlas Bulkheads replacing CFL lamped luminaires.

Kenmore Park Junior and Infant School also benefited from Salix funding and used Academy throughout their lighting refurbishment, again funded by the Salix scheme. Designed for surface mounting in office and educational environments, Academy is an ideal replacement for linear fluorescent fittings providing a maintenance free 50,000 hours operational life.
