EW October – Journey to net zero

Welcome to the October issue of Electrical Wholesaler.

As I write this, Rishi Sunak has announced his intention to press on with watering down key net zero green measures, despite intense criticism. This will be a blow to many in the sector who have either already invested or intend to invest in EV, solar PV, battery storage and other green energy technologies, in anticipation of the 2030 and 2035 net zero targets.

Both consumer and business confidence, and therefore their investment, rely on the government maintaining a consistent approach. This disappointing delay in the timescale will only further delay and confuse the move to net zero.

On a more cheerful note, the preparations for the EW Awards 2023 are being finalised. The votes have been counted, the host has been prepped, and crucially, the trophies have been engraved. The winners will be announced at the awards ceremony in London at the beautiful Chelsea Harbour Hotel.

Thanks to a recent new addition to my family I won’t be able to make the event in person… My partner and I welcomed our first child earlier this summer. However, I would like to congratulate all the finalists on their hard work and commitment to driving innovation and standards over the past year.

In this issue, meanwhile, as always we share our usual news, views, products and installations from market-leading businesses across the sector. This month we tackle the thorny topic of home security (26), take a look at the latest trends in wiring accessories (28) and discuss the possibilities of electric cable for underfloor heating installation (24).

Enjoy the issue!
