EW May – Climate concerns

A new survey from UN-backed non-profit initiative SME Climate Hub has concluded that small to medium-sized businesses need much more help with their Net Zero ambitions. The survey indicates that half of SMEs calculate emissions, and 60% have plans to reduce carbon impact – but two-thirds of small business owners are worried they don’t have the right skills and knowledge to tackle the climate crisis.

Sustainability is the word on everyone’s lips, but it’s a broad issue that encompasses every aspect of a business’s operation. Practical advice on how to implement real change that will make a real difference is short on the ground.

Companies simply paying lip-service to the concept of sustainability, without making any real change, is a growing problem. You can read about the legal and reputational repercussions of so-called ‘greenwashing’ on page 26.

On page 16, meanwhile, you can read about the possibilities of low-carbon electric heating for both new homes and existing older homes.

On a similar note, Ansell Lighting takes a look at tackling the dual issues of energy efficiency and light pollution in outdoor lighting solutions – turn to page 20.

Elsewhere in the issue, Schneider Electrical marketing director shares a guide to the Wild West of social commerce – looking at Tik Tok, transparency and user tracking (page 30).

Plus, as always, our usual news, views, products and installations from market-leading businesses across the sector, including a preview for Digital Construction Week 2023 (33) and an update from the Electrical Industries Charity (28).

Enjoy the issue!
