Welcome to the first issue of the new year!
January is the perfect time to set resolutions and intentions for the year ahead. For many businesses, this will include actions with the aim of meeting planned net zero targets. While the Governmentโs recent rollbacks on its green commitments are unfortunate, I am quietly hopeful that businesses in the sector will continue their plans to cut carbon and achieve their sustainable objectives.ย
The Scolmore Group, for example, has created a new role within the organisation, with the aim of investing in sustainable manufacturing. You can read our interview with new product development and research manager Surej Solanki on page 20.
On page 23, meanwhile, Vestelโs Ben Hugh takes a look at the continued demand and innovation in the EV sector, despite the governmentโs originally ambitious 2030 ban on new petrol and diesel vehicles slipping back to 2035.
However, as electrotechnical trade association BEAMAโs new campaign states, โOur industry is making the progress it can towards net zero, but there are some ceilings only the Government can smash.โ Time will tell in 2024.
Plus, as always, we share our usual news, views, products and installations from market-leading businesses across the sector, including a number of round-ups of key industry events: the EDAโs Data Quality Awards (25), ESFโs Electrical Safety Conference (18) and lighting trade show LiGHT 23 (15).
If you have any ideas for features or topics youโd like to see in EW in 2024, please do get in touch at bandrews@datateam.co.uk.
Enjoy the issue!
