EW Awards – Coronavirus update

In light of the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak, Datateam Business Media wants to assure all associated and invested in the EW Awards that we are monitoring the situation very closely.

We recognise that now is a time of uncertainty for many businesses operating in the electrical wholesaling sector, and we feel it is our duty to do what we can to minimise the impact on the industry and also offer something to look forward to in these difficult times. The Electrical Wholesaler Awards’ team has been hard at work over the past few months planning and preparing this year’s event, and we truly believe that now, more than ever, it’s essential for us to recognise the hard work and efforts of everyone across the industry.

Of course, the safety and wellbeing of our attendees, staff and their communities will always be our number one priority. Any decision to reschedule the event will be made based on the latest guidance issued by the World Health Organisation and any restrictions that are put in place by the UK government.

Event coordinator Sharon Holloway commented: “I would like to take this opportunity to assure everyone involved in this year’s EW Awards, and also anyone considering getting involved, that any money invested into the scheme will certainly not lose its value. All of our incredible sponsors who make this vital event possible will continue to receive exposure via all of the usual channels and any tickets that are purchased for the event will be honoured should the event be rescheduled.”

We are all facing unprecedented challenges at the moment, and when we get through these tough times, it will be incredibly important for everyone in the electrical wholesaling sector to re-establish business relationships, forge new connections and celebrate what has been overcome. The EW Awards  team looks forward to providing an opportunity for professionals from across the sector to reconnect at the EW Awards 2020.

The process

This year, industry members had the chance to have their say in the Brand categories, voting in order to decide the overall winners. This voting process is vital, explains Bryony Andrews, editor of EW, as it provides a way for the industry to highlight those brands and product that they feel have really pushed the boundaries of innovation over the past year.

Entries for the Wholesaler categories, meanwhile, will go before a panel of specially-selected experts. The critique of these judges will be the key factor in deciding who will be deemed to be worthy of walking away from the event as a champion.

Our judges for this year are Eddie Embleton, managing director of Voltimum UK and International; Richard Pagett, managing director of Aria PR; Tracey Rushton-Thorpe, managing director of Keystone Communications and Steve Martin, a director and specialist advisor at Savills. EW editor Bryony Andrews will chair the panel.

EW caught up with Richard and to find out more about his 22 year history in the electrical industry. As editor of Professional Builders Merchant and subsequently Professional Electrician, he reported on industry and company news, product launches and regulatory changes. In 2007 he moved to become group PR manager at NICEIC, rising to external affairs director as the regulatory body grew and eventually merged with ELECSA. In 2013 he founded Aria Public Relations, an award winning PR agency, representing some of the leading brands in the construction sector.
