The materials shortage has continued to be a problem for the UK trades for two years now. New research* found that more than three-quarters (78%) of tradespeople struggled to source the materials theyโve needed in the last year.
As a result, almost half (46%) have had to delay or turn down work, and nearly a fifth (19%) have been forced to let customers down after committing to jobs. Unfortunately, more than one in five (22%) respondents said that they canโt see the shortage easing anytime soon, and that they believe problems will continue into 2023.
There have, however, been signs of the situation easing slightly in recent weeks – so hereโs hoping the situation will continue to improve as the year goes on.

Elsewhere in the issue, I interviewed Danny MacFarlane of Ellis Patents about the cable cleat manufacturerโs amazing 60 year history. Turn to page 26 for a truly great origin story.
This month, our cover story comes from Timeguard, with an overview of the companyโs wide range of easy-install LEDs. Read more on page 10.
