EW April – Renewables technology

Click here to read: EW – April 2024

Sales of used electric cars increased by almost 91% last year, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), showing a clear consumer demand for more sustainable mobility options.

In order to support this demand, it is essential that the right infrastructure is in place. In February, the Department for Transport announced plans to accelerate the deployment of EV charge points across the UK, including grants for schools, additional funding for councils and new proposals to boost chargepoint numbers. The government has also recently extended VAT relief for energy-saving materials (ESMs) in residential buildings – providing a key opportunity for the electrical sector.

For this issue of EW, we spoke to a number of key companies working at the forefront of sustainable technology.

On page 20, Atkore UK’s Jes Astley shares their insights on how advanced cable management and protection solutions can enhance solar installations.

On page 26, meanwhile, myenergi’s Jordan Brompton discusses the implications of the VAT relief announcement for ESMs for clean energy tech and microgeneration in the electrical sector.

Elsewhere in the issue, Tom Bloor of EV charger supplier evec takes a look at what the EV sector can do to make domestic and commercial EV driving more affordable.

Plus, as always, we share our usual news, views, products and installations from market-leading businesses across the sector, including a great interview with AWEBB’s Barry Hall, taking a look at the organisation’s L&D work through its LEAD Academy initiative.

Enjoy the issue!
